Superintendent's Message

A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Fall 2017

By Mr. John Zegers

Dear Friends of the School District of West De Pere,

We are at the threshold of another school year with thankfulness and excitement as we continue to provide many learning opportunities for the students in our community.  Thank you to all of the residents in the School District of West De Pere for making education a top priority.  It is through your efforts and financial sacrifice that our curriculum, programming and facilities are of high quality and our school district is considered a “school district of choice.” I can’t underscore the importance of having a community that is positively committed to our students, supportive of our curriculum, and fiscally motivated to provide each of our students the opportunity to succeed. There are many reasons why we are a school district of choice but it is evident that one of the reasons is that our Board of Education has been very supportive of our administrative team with short and long term academic goals to guarantee every student the opportunity for a quality education in the School District of West De Pere.

A POSITIVE MESSAGE IS ALWAYS WELCOME TO RECEIVE, DELIVER OR SHARE AND IT IS MY PRIVILEGE TO BE ABLE TO SHARE THIS RECOGNITION WITH YOU IN SUPPORT OF THE MANY EFFORTS BY THE ADMINISTRATION, STAFF AND STUDENTS. COLLECTIVELY OUR TOTAL EFFORTS HAVE MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR WEST DE PERE HIGH SCHOOL TO BE RECOGNIZED AS THE 26TH BEST HIGH SCHOOL IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN IN 2017 BY U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT.  CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE CONNECTED WITH THIS SUCCESS STORY FOR 2017.

The administrative team has been working to develop options to address our growing enrollment.  Over the past 10 years, the District has grown by more than 880 students (a 25% increase) in kindergarten through 12th grade. Enrollment is projected to increase by an additional 850 students by 2025.  We are at a point in our planning process where we need our community’s input to determine the best possible path to meet our capacity needs both now and in the future.  To help accomplish this goal we are encouraging all community members to participate in a survey.

The survey will be administered by School Perceptions, LLC, an independent, Wisconsin-based firm with expertise in conducting community surveys. A paper survey will arrive in your mailbox in mid-October, allowing all residents to take the survey by  paper or by following the instructions on the mailing to take the survey online. We look forward to your input as we finalize a plan to update and expand our schools.  "Your Opinion Counts!"

Our present financial situation is strong and I will assure each and every one of our taxpayers that the future looks bright and our optimism is high in the School District of West De Pere. Thank you all for your continued support and “Go Phantoms.”

The mission of the School District of West De Pere is to create a safe comprehensive educational and social environment for students and staff which will produce life-long learners with the capacity to succeed in the local and global community
