A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
By Mr. John Zegers
Dear Friends of the School District of West De Pere,
The 2016 - 2017 school year is off to a PHANtastic start. We continue to be a school district of choice as our membership count increased again this year by 86 students. The School District of West De Pere membership has now grown from 2534 students in 2007 to 3516 this year. This kind of growth is unlike any other district in the State of Wisconsin. I would like to thank the administration, teachers, support staff and the entire West De Pere community for their support, trust, confidence and loyalty. Our school district’s growth is, in part, a result of positive conversations around the community about our district’s curriculum, programs, co-curricular activities and employees. We look forward to modeling our “Vision of Pride and Excellence” in the months and years to come.
Administratively, we continue to work with the Board of Education focusing on future enrollment growth and the opportunities for facility planning. Bray Architects, the Board of Education and the administrative team met recently as a work group to examine options created through discussions with our building administrators. The topics discussed included: current and future building utilization, grade configuration, financing scenarios and taxing impacts. Over the course of this school year, we will continue to provide you with insight, progress from our discussions and feedback opportunities to insure that our best plan is the best for our students, parents and taxpayers. People in our community speak positively about what is happening in our schools. This positive feeling is demonstrated on a daily basis by administration, faculty, support staff, parents and community members as we prepare our children to be life-long learners and positive citizens in the future. We need to continue to create a surplus of positive emotions around our students and district schools. The future success that our students have in the classroom, on the field, court or in a musical production is contingent upon the resources provided through State Aid and property tax relief. It is imperative that we continue to build a strong college and career ready curriculum to allow each individual student the emotional, intellectual, physical and social growth opportunities to be successful.
Our challenge going forward will be to develop a long-term facility plan that balances the needs of our students with the priorities of our taxpayers. We cannot do this alone; we need your assistance and guidance along with the vision of our administrative team and Board of Education. Please know that over the past eight years we’ve been continually focused on improving student learning, controlling costs and increasing operating efficiencies in our district schools. We are committed to maximizing our resources to provide our students and staff the very best educational opportunity possible with state-of- the-art equipment, updated technology and family focused facilities.
If you are interested in learning more about our district accomplishments, district and building goals or want to discuss any other district concerns as we move forward together continuing to be a great school district, I would welcome your call at 337-1393, email at [email protected]
or stop in our district office at 400 Reid Street located in downtown West De Pere. In this season of giving thanks, let us focus on the present and on what we have right now, continue to cultivate a heart of appreciation and move toward our future goals while we enjoy the ride of our successes. We are beaming with PRIDE for all our students and staff as we continue to raise the bar of excellence. Much of our future success will rely on good people, strong values and in continuing our excellent reputation in our region. The future looks bright and the optimism is high. Thank you for your financial support in the past, present and into the future. Let’s continue to live our “Vision of Pride and Excellence.” Happy Holidays to all of you.
The mission of the School District of West De Pere is to create a safe comprehensive educational and social environment for students and staff which will produce life-long learners with the capacity to succeed in the local and global community
