Agendas:
Your child has a student agenda that he or she will be bringing home nightly. I will use the agend to send note or communicate with you. It will also contain information on homework assignments. Please check and sign the agenda daily!
Reading Records:
A reading record will be stapled to the front of your child’s agenda. Please read daily with your child’s agenda. Please read daily with your child and record it on the reading record sheet. When the sheet is filled up, your child can trade it for a reward and then start a new record sheet.
Coming to School:
For safety reasons, please go through the office if you are dropping off, picking up, or volunteering. This school policy is in place to ensure the safety of our children.
Field Trips:
Second grade will take two field trips this year. More info. to come!!
Water Bottles :
Students may keep water bottles at their desks, as long as they don’t become toys. Please label all water bottles.
Birthday Treats:
Birthday treats are welcome, but always optional. As of this printing, we have 23 students in our classroom.
Book Orders:
Book orders will come home monthly. These book clubs offer a wide range of books at reasonable prices. Children love to own books and this ownership can be very motivating for children to read. Please send book orders with check made out to the respective book clubs.
Classroom Materials:
Please help your child be responsible with school materials and also with returning them in a timely fashion.
Bathroom Breaks:
We will take a periodic bathroom break during the day. If your child needs to use the bathroom between those breaks, he or she needs only to ask me!
Discipline Plan:
The school has adopted “Project Achieve.”
Students will be asked (warned) to “stop and think” and be responsible for their behaviors. If a child continues to break the rules, he/she will be asked to write a Fix-It plan. This plan will then need to be signed by a parent.
Student of the Week:
Each child will be assigned one week to be “Special Me.” During this week, your child will be line leader and teacher’s helper. He/she will get to take home Benny Bear and journal about an experience with the bear. The Student of the Week will have the opportunity to share things and decorate the designated bulletin board. In addition, he/she should practice a book at home to read to the class out loud sometime during the week. This is a special time for your child. Please make note of your child’s special week on the last page of this packet.
Volunteers:
Please drop me a note if you are interested in volunteering in our classroom. We will probably need a library helper and computer lab helper, however these will not always be occurring on the same day of the week, that’s fine. I always have work for volunteers to do in the classroom. Just indicate your preference on the note and I’ll see what I can do.
That’s it. I hope I have answered some of your questions. If not, feel free to give me a call or send a note. Our communication is important to me!
