West De Pere High School is proud to announce the selection of Amanda and as Students of the Month for April.
Amanda is a true academic, having taken AP, honors, and College Credit courses throughout high school while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. Teachers have commented that Amanda is the student most likely to set curves for exams or create model projects that other students endeavor to match.
Outside of the classroom, Amanda excels in instrumental performance. She has played clarinet in the Marching and Concert bands, and tenor sax in the Jazz band throughout her high school career. In just her first three years, she entered over sixteen entries at the District Solo and Ensemble Festival, and twelve of her entries have earned State awards. Amanda has been a member of the State Honors Band, has played in the pit for various school musicals, and was selected for the 2008 NBA All State Band. Director Dave Schepp explains, “Amanda’s amazing work ethic has led to great advances in her playing and also great respect from her teachers and peers.”
In addition to her musical talents, Amanda has been a key member of the school newspaper, the Phantom Times, for four years and has competed on the school’s Academic Decathlon.
Next year Amanda will attend UW Eau Claire and major in education.
Megan is a hard girl to catch. Throughout her life, running has been a passion for Megan, and her success in both track and cross country speak to that. Megan trains year-round to keep in top running shape, and that dedication to conditioning has led her to 1st and 2nd Team Bay Conference honors as well as a spot at the State track meet during her junior year.
Megan’s coaches and teammates recognize her talent and hard work and have chosen her as team captain for both track and cross country. Track coach Dexter McNabb says, “I’ve never coached a young lady with so much drive and determination to succeed. I know when I give this young lady a task it will be done at 100% I respect her and love what she stands for.”
Aside from her participation in athletics, Megan is an active participant in CAP (Community Assistance Program), having spent many hours volunteering for the Salvation Army, Syble Hopp, and various community events. Megan is also a member of FCCLA, Spanish Club, NHS, and the school newspaper. This year Megan is serving as a Senior Mentor to a freshman student.
Megan holds a 3.74 GPA and plans to attend St. Norbert College to become a Spanish teacher.
