FEBRUARY STUDENTS OF THE MONTH 2007-08

Shanna and Jill

West De Pere High School is proud to announce the selection of Shanna and Jill as Students of the Month for February.

Shanna has maintained a 3.975 GPA through the past four years, making her eligible for membership in the National Honor Society. Shanna’s club involvements include Spanish and French Clubs and FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), of which she is vice president. In addition, Shanna has been a member of and leader in the Upward Bound program through St. Norbert College.

Shanna truly is the student-athlete. Over her high school career, she has been a key member of the volleyball, cross country, and track teams. Head track coach Dexter McNabb praises Shanna: “Shanna stands for what a student athlete exemplifies: work ethic, moral judgment, and a role model not just to her siblings but to all that she comes in contact with.” Speaking of his own six-year-old daughter, McNabb says, “I would love her to walk along in Shanna’s shoes.”

In addition to her school involvements, Shanna has volunteered for the Salvation Army and Syble Hopp. Next year Shanna plans to attend UW-Oshkosh and focus on education.

Jill is co-captain of the 2008 State Champion West De Pere dance team. Since her sophomore year, Jill has dedicated many hours nearly year-round to training and performing with the team. Outside of school, Jill has performed in numerous ballets including The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella among others. But dancing isn’t the only type of performing Jill does. She is also a member of the State Champion marching band and plays alto sax for the concert and jazz bands. Jill has also worked behind the scenes as a crew member for two West De Pere musicals.

Jill is involved in Students Against Destructive Decisions, currently serving as vice-president, as well as in various activities with her church on the Worship Team and as a Sunday School Leader. With her family, Jill has travelled to Papua New Guinea and Panama, performing a variety of service roles.

Jill’s teachers respect her for her dedication to her education, and her 3.94 GPA reflects her effort. In 2007 Jill was invited to become a member of the school’s National Honor Society where she currently serves as Public Relations Officer. She was selected as the Badger Girl State Alternate her junior year.
