Masterlist of Scholarships

Scholarships are available to students in the senior year.

This is the way a typical student would hear about scholarships at West De Pere H.S.

Let’s take Jane Doe as an example:

Jane has her freshman conference with her counselor. At her conference, she is shown her student portfolio and is encouraged to begin building those strengths that would lead to a strong student portfolio and profile. This profile could be used for scholarships in the future. Jane is also encouraged to develop a strong academic plan and to get involved in extracurricular and community activities.

Jane enters her junior year two years later and is encouraged to take the PSAT. The PSAT allows the student to become eligible for National Merit Scholarships and puts them on a college mailing list. The student will begin receiving mailings from colleges throughout the country.

Jane is also encouraged in the junior year to prepare for and take the American College Test (ACT). This test will indicate college readiness. Many scholarships use the ACT score for scholarship selections.

In January and February of Jane’s junior year, Jane attends her junior conference with her counselor. At this conference, Jane is given the following information about scholarships:

  • develop a student profile to use with scholarship and college applications
  • given internet web site addresses for state and national scholarship searches
  • informed and shown where scholarships are posted and announced i.e. P.A. system, Student Services newsletter, scholarship bulletin board, scholarship books, and the West De Pere website.
  • given an explanation of what criteria scholarship committees use i.e. ACT’s, GPA, extracurriculars, and volunteerism.

In September of her senior year, Jane attends a senior class meeting. At that meeting, a counselor reminds all seniors to begin the college application process, develop their student profile, and watch for scholarships they may be eligible to compete for.
