Welcome Back from Dr. Lau

Dear Phantom Knight Parents and Students,

The 2016-2017 school year is fast approaching. I don’t know about you, but I love this time of year.  Don’t get me wrong, I hate to see summer go, but I am invigorated by the excitement of a new school year, the start of the football season, and the change in seasons. There is nothing better than having the kids back in school.

I hope you have been able to have some fun this summer. I’ve had a great time. I’ve been able to spend some time with my wife and kids, I’ve played golf, I’ve gone kayaking, hung out around the pool, and played my bass guitar. I’ve also had fun reading professional books related to education (I know it sounds weird, but reading professional books is fun for me). I’ve explored many topics this year; innovation in the classroom, making schools more creative, the best ways to teach reading, the importance of play, and school leadership. As I read each of the books I kept thinking about how all of the books described Phantom Knight. I felt proud to know that our school district had created a school that embodied so many things that allowed students to be innovative, creative and playful. I was proud to know that our students are problem solvers and are developing the skills that will serve them well in life. Everything I read confirmed what I already knew; Phantom Knight is a great school for kids to explore, learn, and exceed what they thought they could do.

This year will be an exciting year.  This year marks the 10th anniversary of Phantom Knight.  Much has changed over the past 10 years. As I reflect on the history of Phantom Knight I am filled with pride of how our students, parents and staff committed themselves to making Phantom Knight a great school. To celebrate our 10 years, we will be hosting a gala in spring. Please watch for more information on this as we will need many volunteers to coordinate the event.

Enjoy the last weeks of summer vacation. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the Welcome Back Picnic on Tuesday, August 29th.
